This is a Grant Funded Position Primary Purpose: To provide supplemental instruction for students under the professional guidance and supervision of classroom/intervention teachers. Day tutors work with students individually or in small groups providing supplemental reading, writing, and/or mathematics instruction. Day tutors may work with students in and out of the regular classroom.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: College degree required, teacher certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience: Experience as classroom teacher with children in a professional/school setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties: - Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials in conjunction with the classroom teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
- Assists students, individually or in small groups, for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing intervention strategies.
- Attends meetings and inservice presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluating needs for and progress of intervention strategies.
- Facilitates student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academic skills.
- Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and integrating intervention strategies.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
